WHAT IS LENT?
Lent is a period of forty days and six Sundays prior to Easter. This is the time when the church prepares to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus by focusing on His journey to the cross. Lent provides the church an opportunity to separate ourselves anew from the world by practicing spiritual disciplines, and to renew our vows of devotion to Christ. During this season of the Christian year, as disciples of Jesus, we deny ourselves, take up our own crosses, and follow Him. For, as Paul reminds us, it is not until we are united with Christ in a death like His that we will be united with Christ in a resurrection like His (Romans 6:5).
HOW DO WE OBSERVE LENT?
Ash Wednesday is February 17th and marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. We hope you will join us for our special Ash Wednesday virtual service and plan to make the Lenten journey with Earle Street. Our Lenten sermon series begins Sunday, February 21, and is entitled “God’s Determination to Have a Family.”
TO HAVE A FAMILY"
During the season of Lent, we are confessing our rebelliousness and sinfulness, and at the same time celebrating our faith that God still patiently claims and reclaims us as His children. God goes to great lengths to forgive and restore us, even to the extent of giving His only Son, by whose life, death, and resurrection, we are adopted into God’s family.
