We have been advised by the Greenville Baptist Association, which works in conjunction with South Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief, of an opportunity to help victims of the flooding caused by Hurricane Florence. The first disaster response team, which has been deployed to Cheraw, South Carolina, reports that most of the stores in this area are open, and supplies are available locally.
In light of that information, the GBA Disaster Relief Team is asking for gift card donations. In a disaster scenario like this one, the local economy gets hit twice: first, businesses shut down for the storm; and second, they lose sales when they re-open because relief operations bring in donated supplies. Gift cards help support the local economy while giving affected families the ability to purchase needed supplies.
The GBA is asking that gift cards be delivered to its office by this Thursday, October 4. They will ensure that the cards are distributed to disaster victims by the next GBA Disaster Relief Team, which is being deployed on October 7. Gift card suggestions include Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, CVS, Walgreens, and Visa.
If you would like to participate in this effort, you can purchase gift cards and either bring them by the church office or give them directly to Chuck Emory at Prayer Meeting this Wednesday evening. Wednesday is the deadline for participating, and Chuck will deliver all collected cards to the GBA on Thursday. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Chuck.
