January 27, 2019
Love is a two-way street. It requires a subject and an object, giving and receiving, speaking and listening. Its goals are always reciprocity and mutuality, whether we are talking about our relationships with God or our relationships with one another.
Beginning January 27, we will be exploring the Gospel of John, searching for truth about how God loves us, guidance in how to love each other, and insight about how love enables us to make disciples. We will begin this series with our Winter Bible Study on January 27 for all age groups.
On January 27, there will be no Sunday School for adults. Children will go to both Sunday School hours. Instead, we are asking everyone to come to the Sanctuary for both hours. Beginning at 9:15, we will all meet together for a very abbreviated worship time, with an extended teaching time. At 10:15, we will have a break. Then at 10:30, we will have another very abbreviated worship time, with another teaching time (that will be a continuation of the teaching from the first hour). At 11:30, we will all go to the Fellowship Hall for a soup lunch, and then adults will have a continuation of the Winter Bible Study around the tables, while preschoolers, children, and youth will have their own age-appropriate experiences in learning from John’s Gospel. The Winter Bible Study will conclude at 1:45. Please make your plans to join us for both hours at 9:15 and 10:30, followed by lunch and fellowship together, and more teaching time to follow.
Chuck and I will be team-teaching through the Gospel of John, introducing us to the unique way John tells the story of Jesus. Then, in the sermons on the four Sundays in February, we will be using scenes from John’s Gospel to help us discover how to experience and share God’s love on a two-way street.
